The Dayton Silverbacks are going through some final changes before the start of the 2012 Season. One of the key changes is that of ownership. Since the beginning of the Silverbacks franchise the team has always been owned by Silverbacks Football LLC in which Jeff Kolaczkowski of Dayton acted as president of that organization. After the close of the 2011 season Silverbacks Football LLC and Jeff decided they would be stepping out of the world of football and selling the team to an ownership group. The Dayton Silverbacks are now owned by MRL Sports En-tertainment LLC. There are currently three members on the ownership board for MRL Sports Entertainment LLC and all three board members are current members of the Dayton Silverbacks front office staff.
With the change in ownership, the Silverbacks have also gone through some key title changes. The major change for the organization involves Michael Lause. Michael will be stepping out of the General Manager position and into that of Team President, as he is also president of the ownership board. Mr. Lause has an extensive sports background and has been a dedicated to the Dayton Silverbacks for the past year. Michael started in the organi-zation as the Corporate Sales Director and then moved up the ranks to Vice President of Corporate Sales. With the leaving of the Silverbacks former GM, it only made sense for Michael to step into that role as well. This was followed by the development of MRL Sports Entertainment LLC and Michael taking over as the head of the board. The entire staff is elated at the ownership change and with Michael stepping into the role of Team President. When asked for his feelings Michael said, “With this move, it shows the evolution of the Dayton Silverbacks brand. I am humbled and honored to take on this endeavor. I am honored to lead this organization and identify the brand at the level I know it can be. I look forward to making the Dayton Silverbacks a resource as a commu-nity outlet for the Miami Valley and the Greater Dayton area.”
With Michaels move to Team President, the position of General Manager went up for grabs and was immediately filled. The new General Manager for the Dayton Silverbacks is April Shellenberger. April started with the Silver-backs as an Account Executive in the 2011 season and moved up the ranks to Director of Marketing towards the end of the season. Ms. Shellenberger took the position of Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations at the end of the season and maintained that position up till this recent change. April has a rich history in Dayton as a former radio personality with Clear Channel and Radio First. Team President Michael Lause had this to say, “I am extremely honored to promote April to the position of General Manager. Her hard work and dedication in this endeavor as well as her personal growth have helped to groom her into this role. Her polish to become and ex-ecutive has been noticed and moving her into this position is an honor. She has worked for it and rightfully deserves it.”
